Expected Benefits

The combined workshops and symposium will have several important benefits. They are:

  • A well-designed plan for a SEA program to attract and accommodate students from minority-serving institutions. The plan will have been developed by persons who best understand the needs and values of the students and who will have experienced the SEA program.
  • A workable plan to recruit students from minority-serving institutions to participate in the program.
  • A committed group of faculty and administrators from minority-serving institutions who understand and support the plan (which they helped design), and who can direct students to the program.
  • New or strengthened relationships among a core group of faculty and administrators connected with ocean sciences at minority-serving institutions.
