Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research [CERSER] The goal of the CERSER program is to "develop and implement innovative and relevant research collaboration focused on ice sheet, coastal, ocean, and marine research. Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets [CReSIS] CReSIS is a Science and Technology Center founded in 2005 by the National Science Foundation. The center's mission is to develop new technologies and computer models to measure and predict the response of sea level change to the mass balance of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. National Science Foundation The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created in 1950 by Congress. The goal of the agency is to “promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…". The NSF funds roughly 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America’s colleges and universities—especially those in fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences. Polar Grid Polar Grid is a National Science Foundation MRI funded partnership of Indiana University and Elizabeth City State University to acquire and deploy the computing infrastructure needed to investigate the urgent problems in glacial melting. Polar Grid's major components and concept of operations are depicted in the figure below. TeraGrid TeraGrid integrates high-performance computers, data resources and tools, and high-end experimental facilities around the country by using high-performance network connections. With a combination of resources, the TeraGrid is the world's largest, most comprehensive distributed cyberinfrastructure for open scientific research. The TeraGrid Project ended in 2011 and has been "renewed" by the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE). Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) The Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) is a five-year, $121-million project that is supported by by the National Science Foundation (NSF). XSEDE not only replaces, but expands on NSF TeraGrid project. XSEDE is the most advanced, powerful, and robust collection of integrated advanced digital resources and services in the world. It is a single virtual system that scientists can use to interactively share computing resources, data, and expertise. Jquery Tutorial The Jquery tutorial allows developers to create websites and create rich, native-like experiences that can not be achieved with standard HTTP requests. Jquery supports either single pages or local internal linked "pages" within a page. Photos on Google Maps Street View Partner Program The Street View Partner Program is a feature within Google Maps that allows users to explore places around the world through 360-degree street-level imagery. This feature is usful for those who manage a unique property, i.e. a park, pedestrian mall, or university campus. These persons can request for the Street View team to visit their location; the Street View Partner Program team will visit your property and collect imagery using a car, trike, or even snowmobile. Every year Elizabeth City State University provides student with a Student Handbook. The handbook contains valuable information, such as, the contact information for school officials, a list of rules and regulations, a copy of the academic calendar for the upcoming shcool year, and some historical information pertaining to the school. Page 151 was used by the team to gain more information about the buildings on cmapus. HighEdWeb 2011 Conference - Austin, Texas During the 2011 HighEdWeb Confeence in Ausitn, Texas, Jody Benedict presented her research on "Mapping Campus with Google Map Maker." The research discussed how St. John Fisher College corrected the data on the U.S. map once Google opended the are for editing. Researchers added buildings, walking paths, and parking lots, and remove roads that did not exist on the Google Map. The new editions to the map now allow visistors to easily navigate campus using Google Maps on their mobile devices. |
