Biographical Sketch

Carl Seward is a rising junior mathematics major at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and has been a student at the University since the fall 2000 semester. Born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia, Seward is an alumnus of I.C. Norcom High School, having graduated with honors. His twin brother, Carlos, is a rising junior history major at Norfolk State University located in Nofolk, Virginia. His mother, Anna, is a nurses assistant.
Currently, Seward is associated with many organizations including being a researcher for the Office of Naval Research Scholarship Program, Maynard Education Scholar, founding president of campus National Society of Black Engineers, math tutor and peer mentor for the university's general studies department, vice president of the math and computer science club, historian for the campus NAACP, member of the campus student leadership academy, as well as being a member of the National Technical Association (NTA) and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). Carl is also very active in his church, New Bethel Baptist Church, as a volunteer computer trainer and volunteer church webmaster, as well as being very active in his work with the Portsmouth/West Chesapeake Chapter of the American Red Cross, were he served as past co-chair of the blood services committee.

Making someone who may be having a bad day laugh or smile. It's a great feeling.

WHAT I LIKE TO DO:
Take walks or sit near water, watch movies, laugh, listen to people, learning things.

GOALS AND PLANS:
I plan to attend graduate school and receive my masters degree in mathematics and go on to earn my Ph.D. in mathematics education. My career goals include teaching at the high school and college level and then moving into college administration. My ultimate career goal is to become dean of a school of science at a historically black college or university.
