Statement of Purpose

Greetings to all! I am Tiffany Fogg a senior at Fayetteville State University, home of the Broncos, where I am pursuing a Bachelors degree in Biology. My personal and professional aspiration is to achieve an internship and work experience to prepare me with essential skills that will effectively contribute to a thriving career in the field of Biology and remote sensing.

In preparation for the industry I begin to use time prudently to become more involved in summer internships and research. As a junior I had been awarded the opportunity to conduct research at Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, NC. It was there that I discovered a passion for remote sensing. I researched Dolphin Presence/Absence Probabilities on the Virginia and North Carolina Coasts as Correlated with Sea Surface Temperature and Chlorophyll-α levels. The overall purpose was to determine if sea surface temperatures and chlorophyll-α levels could be used in determining the presence or absence of dolphins. The abstract was submitted, and accepted to the annual IEEE IGARSS Conference in Seoul, Korea July 24-29, 2005, where I will be presenting.

Throughout my experience as a summer intern, not only did I discover the world of remote sensing, but I also became proficient in UNIX, Dreamweaver, HTML Basics, Macromedia Fireworks and GIS/Arc View 3.2.

By the end of summer 2005, I will have completed an internship at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Goddard Space Flight Center, where I will be conducting research on non-destructive space innovations, which is also in conjunction with the National Institute of Justice.

As a graduating senior in pursuit of a Post-doctoral degree, I plan to pursue a career in Forensic Science. We have a motto at Fayetteville State University that best describes my outlook for the future, “Your Future is Our Focus.” The future is my focus, with a Ph D under my belt I plan to center my career on education, supporting students and aiding them in their academia.

It is my life-long goal and challenge within myself to become the “Best of the Best.”
