Research Week continued on Tuesday with a presentation by Dr. Ephraim Gwebu, Chair, Department of Chemistry and Physics. Dr. Gwebu's research presentation was delivered in two parts. Part one focused on the comparison of two extracts, Heteropyxis natalensis and Artemesia afra, on Allaxon treated rats. This research is focused on the effectiveness of these extracts on diabetes, a major disease in African-Americans.
The second section of his presentation focused on the stress caused by Internal Racism and its affect on diabetes in the population in South Africa. Internal Racism is the extent to which Blacks agree with racist stereotypes about Blacks.
