On September 16, 2006, in the morning workshop I found out that DIEL means Developing Institute for Emerging Leader. I also learned some dinner etiquette from Marsha Reeves.

In the second session I met the speaker from the NSF. I also took a picture with him and gave him my information and he gave me his business card. His name was Tyrone D. Mitchell and he was talking about different opportunities there are in the world to get a scholarship. He also gave out websites with information about the scholarships.

In attendance at the MiRS Conference were numerous influential scientists as well as research professionals. There were higher education institutions in addition to corporate industries in attendance.

Later on in the session, Michael Johnson mentioned Money vs. attitude. The entire panel informed us that brains will get you the job, but your attitude will keep you the job. You have to have a well developed character. Then the panelist went on to inform us not to spend more than you make because credit history will catch up with you and now employers are interested in employees credit history. It is all about planning. Time is an asset and that you cannot buy time back so use your time to your full advantage and don't be afraid to wait for those larger luxuries that you want out of life.
