Professional Statement

My name is Kaiem L. Frink a Computer Science junior at Elizabeth City State University with a minor in Geographical Information Systems. Through my three years at Elizabeth City State University I have been able to developed and expand my education as well as to plan and complete my future goals accordingly. As I enter my senior year as a Computer Scientist in pursuit of my Bachelor & Science Degree. Following the advisement of Principal Investigator Dr. Linda B. Hayden and the exposure that has been granted to myself through the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing and Education has not only introduced me to graduate school but the fact I have the qualifications and characteristics that allows me to be an competitive applicant for Graduate School. Regardless of my stability and financial situations, I will always have my education.

During my undergraduate years I have been involved in five research team projects that are related to Remote Sensing, Global Warming, Photo Imaging, Stock Assessment, Scientific Programming, and Water Quality. These research projects have allowed me to submit and be accepted into Scientific Research Synopsis through out the world. Attending these conferences has been a very important element in my education this allows me to see what other students are participating in at other institutions. Placing the proper contacts as well as inquiring in regards to Graduate Institutions and Ph.D. opportunities. While being an undergraduate research student I have served on the Population Dynamics Team, Multimedia Team for two consecutive years, the Water Quality Team, and I was a participant in the Summer 2005 & 2006 Undergraduate Research Experience in Ocean and Marine Science as a member of the Stock Assessment & Antarctic Temperature Mapping Teams.

During my undergraduate years at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) I have built a strong, supportive network with computer Scientist whose day is not complete unless theyhave had interaction with a computer. Within these up and coming years I would like to obtain a fellowship to pursue my Master’s in Mathematics & Computer Science while still incorporating Geographic Information System. This will allow me the opportunity to seek advanced research in locations where the research is encouraged and supported. My long-term goal within the next to five to ten years is to obtain a Ph.D. in the field of Computer and Information Systems or Mathematics.

The characteristics that I seek in a graduate school is their academic and research programs that are offered. I look at the statistics of the students who obtain their Master’s degrees from the graduate program as well as students who continue on to complete their Ph.D. underneath the age of 28. Being a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and relocating to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to obtain my Bachelor of Science Degree, I’m willing to relocate for this Master’s. I’m interested in whom my classmates are and the undergraduate universities they attended. In addition to class size, average Graduate Record Examination scores for the past five years, and available Funding that I may qualify for with the Grade Point Average I have earned. This will hopefully give me assistance with financial support for now and in graduate school.

I believe strongly in the notion of giving back.Much has been given to me and I desireto help others, especially young African American men who need guidance and encouragement.
