The mission of the Council on Undergraduate Research is to support and promote high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship. The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and its affiliated colleges, universities, and individuals share a focus on providing undergraduate research opportunities for faculty and students at predominantly undergraduate institutions.

  Several representatives from Elizabeth City State University made poster presentations during this years "Posters on the Hill" event at the capitol in Raleigh, North Carolina. They were accompanied by Dr. Mickey L. Burnim, Chancellor and Dr. Carolyn Mahoney, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Students representing ECSU were Carl Seward, Golar Newby, Danielle Graves, Nelson Veales, and Linwood Creekmore.
