Dr.
Georgia Lawrence
Chair, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, ECSU
Dr. Lawrence received her B.A. degree and MEd from the University
of North Carolina-Greensboro. She received her PhD from North Carolina
State University in Mathematics Education. She has in the past served
as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Dr. Lawrence will
serve as a mentor for the Mathematics of the Great Dismal Swamp team.
Dr. Linda
Hayden
Professor, Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science, ECSU
Dr. Hayden is a tenured professor of computer science. She was featured
in the Black Creativity 2000 Exhibit of The Museum of Science and
Industry located in Chicago, Illinois. The exhibit celebrates the
accomplishments of African American Women in Science and Technology.
B.S. degree in Math and Physics from Virginia State University;
M.A.T. in Mathematics from University of Cincinnati; M.S. in Computer
Science from Old Dominion University; Ph.D. in Mathematics Education
from American University. She serves as principal investigator for
the Mathematics of the Great Dismal Swamp Project.
Mrs. Sue
Powers
Sue Powers is a veteran teacher in the state of North Carolina.
She has written grants and has started projects at her school, Moyock
Elementary School, where she is a third grade teacher. Mrs. Powers
received the Presidential Award for the most outstanding elementary
teacher in North Carolina in the year 2000. She has also received
national awards for the best conservation teacher of the year. She
serves as consultant for the Mathematics of the Great Dismal Swamp
team.

Dr. Maurice
Powers
Dr. Maurice Powers currently acts as project director for the Dismal
Swamp Boardwalk Education and Research project; teach courses in
geology & environmental science; directs research on hydrology
of Dismal Swamp. He also teaches an independent study course in
environmental science for University of North Carolina - Chapel
Hill. He serves as consultant for the Mathematics of the Great Dismal
Swamp team.
Mr. Omari Salisbury
Omari graduated in December of 1999 with a B.S. in Geology and a
minor in Environmental Science. He worked as a student researcher
for 3 years and now assists in directing research activities for
the Environmental Research Lab. Omari serves as consultant for the
Mathematics of the Great Dismal Swamp team.
