The closing ceremonies were held in the K. E. White Graduate Center. Dr. Linda Hayden, Director of the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research at ECSU, opened the ceremony(Dr. Hayden's remarks). ECSU Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Vann Newkirk, welcomed the girls and their sponsors. Mr. Jonathan Frederick Director of the North Carolina Science Festival, also spoke to the attendees.
Dr. Denise Johnson, Associate Professor of Education at Winston-Salem State University, was the guest speaker.
Her research areas and publications focus on girls in STEM, Computational Thinking, and informal learning environments in STEM all which are generated from activity in the three community-based youth programs that she directs.
