Dr. June
Harris, native of South Mills, NC, has impacted the world of
education by producing high standards, not only for her, but
also for our children.
Dr. Harris
began her long road to education in the schools of Camden
County, Marian Anderson High School, now known as Camden Middle
School. She went on to pursue her Bachelor of Science Degree
from North Carolina Central University; Master's Degree from
Atlanta University and her Doctoral Degree from University
of Maryland, College Park. She also embarked on other areas
and aspects of education from the prestigious John Hopkins
University and Loyola University in Baltimore, MD, the University
of Alabama (Tuscaloosa) and Catholic University in Washington,
DC.
All of
her education paid off, because she is one of the key persons
involved in educational legislation on Capitol Hill.
June got
her start in Washington under the auspices of Democratic Rep.
Bill Clay of Missouri. When he was appointed to the Select
Committee on Committees in 1979, he brought her to Capitol
Hill as a part of his staff. He opened doors for her and sent
her out to either sink or swim. She has served the communities
and the nation for our children very well. Through her travels
all over the world she says the experiences and lessons learned
have enriched her life beyond words.
