Scholarship Amount

Maximum of $2000.00 per semester for in-state students and $4250.00 per semester for out- of-state students. Scholarships are funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

Qualifications

Students in this proram can be recruited from our current ECSU student population or graduating high school seniors. Both in-state and out-of-state student are eligible. All applicants must be a member of an underrepresented minority in science and mathematics fields and have an expressed desire to continue their education through to the graduate school level.

Graduating High School Seniors

  • Must be in the top 50% of their graduating class
  • GPA of 2.75 or above;
  • SAT Scores of 700 or above;
  • Select a major in mathematics, mathematics education, or computer science


Current ECSU Students

  • 3.00 or above GPA;
  • A major in mathematics, mathematics education, or computer science
  • SAT Scores of 700 or above;


We will require all students to make a formal application and to be interviewed by the faculty members under which they will study. All students involved in the program will be expected to:

  1. Maintain the qualifying 3.0 GPA;
  2. Attend the visiting lecturer series;
  3. Initiate a research project with their advisor;
  4. Attend the research training seminars;
  5. Make written reports of their student/sponsor travels;
  6. Devote 20 hours each week to working in the research laboratory; and
  7. Remain a full time student carrying at least 15 hours of coursework.


This program will provide the student with the following benefits:

  1. Close association with a research advisor;
  2. State-of-the-art computer research support equipment;
  3. Support for travel to national and regional conferences;
  4. Money for their college expenses;
  5. Summer research and internship opportunities;
  6. GRE preparation and payment of GRE fees; and
  7. Specially designed seminars with visiting lecturers;
