Professional Statement

I, Tyrone Whitehurst, have chosen computer science as my major because it consists of activities I love to do and it also opens a broad amount of career opportunities for me in the future. I have always been fascinated with certain parts within a computer and the computer system as a whole. Courses such as C++ Programming and Java come natural to me due to my background on the languages of a computer.

During the Undergraduate Research Experience/GRID program at Elizabeth City State University, I will further my study in computer along with marine and ocean science. Applying my knowledge in computer science to the field of marine science will help with the monitoring of ice sheets and polar ice caps. Also in the program, I will use Linux, Apache web server, MySQL, and PHP together to build a LAMP Server for a GRID system. The experience from Undergraduate Research Experience/GRID program will help give me the experience I need to further my career in computer science.

Upon graduation, my goal further my studies as a full time computer science graduate student. Graduate school will allow me to continue my studies and learn more to help me to become more successful. Hopefully, it will lead to me obtaining a doctorate in Computer Science. If this is accomplished, I will try to become a college professor. When I continuing my education at graduate school, college graduation will be a success all on its own.
