Welcome
to my page!
My name is Ashley D. Berryman.
I am currently a sophomore at Elizabeth City State University majoring
in computer science. My interest in computers and mathematics began while
I was in elementary school. During that time and throughout the rest of
my academic career, I have always been interested in subjects that relate
to science and technology. My love for computers and mathematics was the
result of it being easy for me, but as time went on, it began to become
critical thinking and logical reasoning that attracted my interest.
I have many expectations for myself, and I hope to fulfill them. A very
important one, is to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information
Science. My goal within the next five to ten years is to obtain a Ph.
D. in the field of Computer and Information Systems or Mathematics. I
want to experience college’s many horizons, its awesome environment,
and at the same time, be a part of an awesome student body! My destination
is to where and when my mind gains knowledge to its greatest capacity
and I hope to have an amazing experience down this long and twisting path
also known as my learning process. My ambitions are to share my education
with others that I interact with.
My research experience will be nurtured through a summer research experience.
In the summer of 2007 I was given the chance to complete an eight-week
summer undergraduate internship at Elizabeth City State University-Undergraduate
Research Experience in Ocean and Marine Science. I was informed of this
opportunity by my Pre-Calculus math teacher Ervin Howard. We had individual
teams and mentors. I was on Dr. Jinchun Yuan's oceanography team with
my colleagues Diaminatou Goudiaby from Elizabeth City State University
and Phillip Moore from Saint Augustine's College. Our team sought to identify
empirical relationships of pCO with physical (salinity, temperature) and
biological (chlorophyll) variables.
I believe that success can be measured in more ways than one. Some beleive
success is measured by your career and the amount of money you make. Personally,
I believe that success is measured by a person's persistence. I believe
that my most important values and beliefs that will guide me on my road
to success is perseverance. In order to succeed in my life I have to have
will and determination to stick with it. Enthusiasm for mastering something
worthwhile is a rewarding, joyous experience and it takes effort. Mistakes
and setbacks are only part of the process.
In my life I wish to accomplish my goals by: finishing college, acquiring
a steady well paying job, finding happiness for myself as well and by
taking on any challenges that come my way. I plan on achieving my goals
by first of all, setting specific goals for myself. I will also need to
develop a clear plan and finally, I will have to live my plan. The value
of a plan can only be measured by the results.
