I, Akeem Archer, am a sophomore student attending Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth, North Carolina, majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing.

As a computer science major, I also am participating in the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) program.

The impact of the CERSER program has had a profound affecton my short and long term academic goals. My short-term goals include continually participating in the CERSER program and achieving my Bachelor of Science Degree in the year 2009. This program has afforded me the opportunity to experience and grasp the key concepts and knowledge base that the Computer Science field has to offer. This research has allowed me to travel to various conferences in different states. These conferences included: “The Minorities in Research Science Conference”, “The Annual Future Tech Conference”, “The Annual Information Assurance Conference”, and last, “The Undergraduate Research Conference”.

One of the highlights thus far of my academic research was the participation in the “Micro Study of Water Quality of Elizabeth City’s Drinking Wells”. Through this research project, I was able to develop my field and statistic research skills. This research project consisted of monitoring several of the Elizabeth City drinking wells for acceptable limits of North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Division of Water Quality (DENR);and comparing to acceptable limits provided by DENR. From this research, I was able to determine that many of our samples fell below acceptable guidelines provided by ( DENR).

Attending Graduate School and further developing my research capabilities within the Computer Science field is the driving force for my long-term academic goals. Upon completing my Graduate term at Elizabeth City State University, my intentions is to further my education in a research program that will challenge the knowledge and skills that I have acquired at Elizabeth City State University.

In conclusion, I look forward to what’s ahead of me and further my accomplishments.
