My interests in science dates back to my years in high school, where I excelled in biology and chemistry. When I was a senior, I was always the one who stayed behind to ask questions or help out in any kind of way. It seemed only logical that I pursue a career in biology.

When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of molecular biology research, all of which tended to reinforce and solidify my intense interest in biology. I’ve also had the opportunity to study a number of subjects in the human anatomy and physiology and they have both been enjoyable and enlightening, providing me with a new and different perspective on the world in which we live in.

In the realm of research, I have developed a special interest in the field of marine science that involves remote sensing; during the summer of 2005 I was one of 11 fellow graduate and undergraduate students that will be participating in an intense 6-week course. The course layout involves analyzing software applications such as projecting data into Arc Map and using GIS (geographic information systems), which will allow the research finding to be mapped digitally in a database that can be viewed across the world. I learned about its many practical applications especially in relation to using varies types of remote sencoring, ground penetrating radar intruments and satellite navigation systems.

Being able to attend the summer of 2005 URE OMS summer research program has given me a perspective on a whole new view of marine science. The program has thus far challenged me mentally and physically. In the years to come I will look back on this experience an say that working in the marine science field has fulfilled its duties as guiding and challenging the up coming youth.
