      I have
always been fascinated by computers so when the time came to declare a
major I chose Computer Science. The reason I chose North Carolina A&T
State University as the place to receive my undergraduate degree was because
it has an excellent Computer Science department and I was awarded a scholarship
from their College of Engineering. Currently, I am a member of NSBE (National
Society of Black Engineers). This organization's mission is to increase
the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically,
suceed professionally, and positively impact the community. I was also
recently inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society. Golden
Key is an academic honour society which recognizes and encourages scholastic
achievement and excellence among college and university students from
        all academic disciplines. After receiving
my bachelor's degree in Computer Science, I plan on futhuring my studies
to receive my Masters degree and later my Ph.D in Computer Science. My
undergraduate research experience has exposed me to new things within
my major such as as ArcView and GIS Training. During my research opportunity,
I observed the history of coastal upwellings along the northern beaches
of the North Carolina Outer Banks. We combed through pages of data and
used ArcView and GIS to present the findings, and in turn I think that
this experience has done an excellent job in preparing me for graduate
school. Once in graduate school, I would like to focus my studies on a
particular fieId that will combine my knowledge of Computer Science with
the ArcVIew and GIS training that I received. I feel that Computer Science
is a broad field that enables you to choose jobs from a wide range of
areas. These areas include ocean and marine sciences. One day I
hope that I can pass the knowledge that I have learned about Computer
Science along to someone who has not really been exposed to the subject.
