My
name is Jenelle Jamila Forde. I am a rising junior at Saint
Augustine’s College in Raleigh, North Carolina majoring
in English and Mathematics. I intend on pursuing doctoral
degrees in Mathematics and Astrophysics. My long term career
goals are to be an Astronaut and an epidemiologic researcher.
Beginning
in the seventh grade, I have developed a particular interest
in astronomy. I have since very young been adept in mathematics
and environmental science. I graduated out of the Math,
Science and Technology (MST) Academy at Calvin Coolidge
High School in Washington, DC in June 2002. From there I
decided to go Saint Augustine’s College and double
major in English and Mathematics. I decided to double major
because I enjoy reading excellent literary works just as
much as I enjoy solving difficult math problems.
I
have taken advantage of every opportunity that would prepare
me for future success in my field, including this undergraduate
research experience at Elizabeth City State University.
Prior to this experience I have interned at National Geographic
Society for half my senior year in high school, and interned
at Fannie Mae for two summers. Through these experiences
I have been able to meet many professional individuals who
share the same love for mathematics and astronomy.
