PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT

As far back as I can remember, math has been of high interest with concerns to the advancement of my academic career. All through my grade school years and even today I have found math to be an enjoyable field of study with great success in my favor, though I do still experience some challenges along the way.

Majoring in mathematics with a minor in secondary education is a path that I thought I would never travel, yet now I find myself on route to seeking a Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Mathematics. Through the majority high school I laughed at the thought of being a teacher, because never in all my life had I noted that option as a possible consideration for a career path that I would choose to follow. Now however, I fancy the notion of sharing my knowledge with those eager to learn as an educator and make goals for myself to one day do such. Math is what I have to offer to society and more than anything I want people to think of math as something enjoyable and not a burden upon their lives sharing with them what I enjoy so much, and becoming a strong advocate of the subject.

While enrolled in Elizabeth City State University I have been extended countless opportunities to grow as a professional individual. Invitations to conferences, trips to NASA, and internship opportunities have all been allotted within one short semester here at the University.

Successfully finishing my first year of college is something that I can say that I am sincerely proud of however, I know that in order to graduate on the anticipated date of May 2011 with the rest of my class I have so much more to accomplish. With my future being entirely in my hands I have no plans on stopping at a Bachelors degree. I have a belief that if you are willing and able that you should continue your education to the fullest extent.

Once I graduate from Elizabeth City State University I plan to eagerly pursue my Master's. Later on in life seeking my Doctorial Degree in Mathematics, inevitably doing something that I am strongly passionate in, willingly able and happy doing.
