NIA is a undergraduate research experience program at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) and serves as the central point of entry for several undergraduate research programs at Elizabeth City State University.

Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research [CERSER]
http://cerser.ecsu.edu/ http://cerser.ecsu.edu/

The goal of the CERSER program is to "develop and implement innovative and relevant research collaboration focused on ice sheet, coastal, ocean, and marine research.

Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets [CReSIS]
http://www.cresis.ku.edu

CReSIS is a Science and Technology Center founded in 2005 by the National Science Foundation. The center's mission is to develop new technologies and computer models to measure and predict the response of sea level change to the mass balance of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica.

Polar Grid
http://www.polargrid.org/polar grid/index.php/Main_Page

Polar Grid is a National Science Foundation MRI funded partnership of Indiana University and Elizabeth City State University to acquire and deploy the computing infrastructure needed to investigate the urgent problems in glacial melting. Polar Grid's major components and concept of operations are depicted in the figure below.

TeraGrid
http://www.teragrid.org/

TeraGrid integrates high-performance computers, data resources and tools, and high-end experimental facilities around the country by using high-performance network connections. With a combination of resources, the TeraGrid is the world's largest, most comprehensive distributed cyberinfrastructure for open scientific research.

USGS Global Visualization Viewer (GloVis)
http://glovis.usgs.gov/

GloVis is an online search and order tool for selected satellite and aerial data. The viewer allows users to easily browse images from multiple Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Centers' data holdings from around the world.

Landsat Image Mosaic of Antarctica (LIMA)
http://lima.usgs.gov/

LIMA was created from more than 1,000 Landsat ETM+ scenes by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), with funding coming from the National Science Foundation (NSF). LIMA offers cloudless, seamless, and high resolution images of Antarctica.

Defining the Antarctic Grounding Line
http://nia.ecsu.edu/ur/0809/teams/antarctica/index.html

The 2008 - 2009 Defining The Antarctic Groundline team worked in support of a larger NASA IPY project to determine the Antarctic's mass balance (i.e., the net gain or loss of ice from the Southern continent.) Their goal was to determine the 'Grounding Line' along a specific stretch of Antarctic coastline, using NASA supplied computer codes written in Interactive Data Language (IDL) 4th generation programming language, installed and run in the windows environment. This site is a reflection of their findings.
