Dr. Cheryl Jackson-Lewis is currently serving as a Research Associate for the Center for Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER). She is the former Principal Investigator/Director of TRIO Programs at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). She has 34 years of Student Personnel experience and over twenty years of administrative experience on the collegiate level. She has had extensive training in working with the disadvantaged and special needs populations. She also has a wealth of experience developing and executing pre-college & undergraduate research programs, and was highly successful in securing and managing grants and contracts ($13 million).

During her tenure at ECSU, she serve as the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. She prepared, designed, wrote and presented the Master's Degree in School Administration (MSA) Program and in 2006, the MSA Program began one of the four Master's Degree Programs offer at this institution.

Dr. Jackson-Lewis has an Ed.D. in Urban Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from Temple University, M.A. in Administration from Antioch University, and Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology. She is certified by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as a Superintendent of Schools, Principal, Exceptional Children Program Administrator and Special Education Teacher (cross categories) with a Psychology endorsement. She possesses certificates from the National Affiliation for Literacy Advance -Laubach (NALA Standards) as a Basic Skills Tutor and a Senior Literacy Tutor. She has taught in grades K-16 as well as on the graduate school level. As a world traveler, she has traveled to five continents and forty-three of the fifty states in the United States, Caribbean Islands, & Mexico and has studied abroad in Africa, China, and South America.

She was an active member of the North Carolina Council of Educational Opportunity Programs (NCCEOP), where she served as the Chairperson of the National TRIO Day, Research and Technology committees as well as served on the Executive Board of NCCEOP (2011-2012).

She has served on the following University committees: Academic Executive Council, Academic Administration and Planning Council, Adhoc Committee on Recruitment & Retention Articulation Agreement Committee, Calendar Committee, Curriculum Committee, ECSU Foundation Board-Building & Grounds Subcommittee, Enrollment Management & Marketing (Precollege Liaison), Enrollment Management Team, Graduate Council (Chair); Library Council; M. L. Burnim Student Leadership Awards Committee, Registration Taskforce, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS): Principal Committee III – Institutional Effectiveness (Co-Chair); Substance Abuse Committee, and Textbook Committee. As a means to enhance educational opportunities for students, training for parents and resources for faculty and staff, by joining in collaborative partnerships with NASA's Regional Resource Training Site and NCEOA/Microsoft.

She holds professional membership with the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Girl Scouts of America (lifetime membership), National Association for Women in Higher Education, and the National Association of Student Affairs Administrator in Higher Education.

Dr. Jackson-Lewis also holds membership in two of the premier women's organizations: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Links, Incorporated and is a proud member of the Order of Eastern Stars-Hood Chapter #33. She joyfully serves on the Greeters, Intercessory Prayer, and Torchbearer/Circle of Light Ministries at The Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, NC.

She was married to the late Alvin J. Lewis and is the mother of two adult children, Daniel and Savannah.
