From birth I have always known that technology would lead my life. Technology has influenced many of my goals such as receiving a BS degree in Computer Science from Elizabeth City State University, pursuing a Masters degree from Howard University, eventually earning a Ph.D. and working for the United States military creating the future technology for the next generation. Achieving these goals is not as easy as just stating these goals. Growing up poor made striving for these goals hard and at times impossible, but hard set moral values instilled by my mother drove me to strive for higher goals than other students around me.
     Graduating from Northeastern High School was the first step in achieving my goals. The next step in completing my goals was going to college. Elizabeth City State University was an excellent stepping-stone to fulfill my future career goals. Once accepted to the university I applied with the Office of Naval Research program to get experience in undergraduate research. My application was accepted and I was approved to participate in the undergraduate research program as well as receive a scholarship for my efforts. Once in the research program, my skills increased at an immense rate. The System Administration research geared my mind towards research that was much different than high school research. Soon I was hired to assist in the lab. This work experience established a good work edict that I took with me on my internships and summer programs after my freshman academic year at Elizabeth City State University. The National Association of Mathematicians held a summer research program at Elizabeth City State University. Although my classification was lower than all of the students there I was still allowed to participate because of my past research and my developed abilities. Another of my internships was with the Naval Research Laboratories in the Virtual Reality Department. This internship was located in Washington DC and allowed me to see how a professional government institutional environment operated. Working with my mentors has only increased my desire for a Masters degree. The importance of education is echoed throughout much of the work I do with all of my mentors. With my purposed course of study I will be well on my way in becoming experienced in several different fields with specialties in Computer related subjects. With the research and studies that I have done, achieving my goals seems one step closer everyday.
     Through the completion of my goals I hope to create new and effective ways of using the world’s resources. My plans of creating better flight simulator will allow pilots to train in real life situations without the environmental waste of jet fuel, pollution, noise, and money. Also my plans of getting into satellite mapping of terrain will allow others to efficiently build roads, bridges, and other structures without dramatically effecting the surrounding environment. With the use of my research and future research I hope that the technology of today’s world will not only improve the standard of living, but the quality of living on Earth as well.
