My name is Dana Chandler. I am a junior at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) located in the heart of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. My major is Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education.

During my time in grade school and beyond, I carried a love for mathematics and always wanted to do more. So, the decision to study mathematics in college was an easy one. When I was offered the opportunity to join the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) at ECSU my excitement increased for math. This program gets you together with like-minded students that share in similar interest and skills. This program also provides students with trainings throughout the year such as SEASPACE, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, C++, and Python. Training sessions in Mac Operating systems and Adobe Photoshop will prove useful in my future endeavors.

In the winter of 2016, I studied intensely under Andrew Brumfield to gain knowledge of our SEAPSPACE system. This was a 2-week training that provided great detail and insight to clouds and sea surface temperatures.  Following that training, I participated in the mathematics education team research project at ECSU during the Spring 2017.  Our research was GLOBE Training for Preservice and Inservice Teacher Education at Elizabeth City State University.  GLOBE consists of protocols in which our team utilized for our research project.  The three protocols that we researched were clouds, air temperature, and surface temperature.  After completing our research, I presented our findings for the education department during Education Research Week at ECSU.

As I continue on the path of mathematics and education, I will welcome all the research, trainings and academic experience to enrich my skills. I will move forward in the pursuit of a graduating in 2019. Once I obtain my degree I will begin the journey to completing my masters in mathematics.
