My name is Charles Hockaday, Jr. I am a sophomore at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) located in Elizabeth City, NC. During my senior year of high school I was granted the opportunity to intern under the chief of information systems at Halifax Community College. During my internship I gained knowledge when it came to computers and the history behind them. Interning under the chief helped me learn about Macintosh computers, how to clean computers and how to make updates on the different programs. Working in information systems helped me improve different sets of skills such as communication skills, time management skills, also being able to learn from the mistakes that I made in previous projects. I am currently a participant in the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education & Research Program (CERSER). This program performs research focused on ice sheets, coastal, ocean, and marine research. In this program, students are required to apply for summer internships, which will allow the students to apply the knowledge they gained during the academic year to the real world. Being in this program will help me learn about how to use different programs such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, C++, Python, etc.
