My name is Rashida L. Williams. I am a sophomore attending Elizabeth City State University (ECSU). My major is Mathematics with a minor in Education. Since I am curious as to how numbers work and are manipulated, I decided to further my education in math. Furthermore, I want to spread the knowledge acquired and find more exciting, unique ways of problem solving as a teacher.
In the second semester of my freshman year, I was awarded a scholarship with the Center of Excellence and Remote Sensing Education (CERSER) program, directed by Dr. Linda B. Hayden. During that time, Dr. Darnell Johnson mentored the math education team members, and the name of our project was “Successful Transition from Math Eight to Math 1.” By the completion of my freshman year, I was further committed to become a math educator. This year I look forward in working with the team and continuing to research strategies and techniques teachers are using to better enhance students’ performance on the End of Course (EOC) tests.
My goal is to become a successful math educator, encouraging students to get involved in the Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) fields. In the meantime, I plan to continue with the research program, receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, further my education and pursue my masters and doctorate degrees. |
