My name is Rashida Williams. I am a freshman attending Elizabeth City State University (ECSU)). Currently, I am majoring in Mathematics with a minor in Education. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved math and a little science. Although, it wasn’t until my later years and after helping neighborhood kids with their homework, I realized I wanted to become a teacher (specifically math).
The second semester of my freshman year, I had the opportunity to join the Center of Excellence and Remote Sensing Education (CERSER) scholarship program, directed by Dr. Linda B. Hayden. The program gives me the opportunity to see first-hand the techniques and strategies that teachers are implementing in the classroom and do research on how to better enhance students’ performance on the End of Course (EOC) test. Even now, I see the impact it has with meeting my future goals.
My goal is to become a successful math teacher, encouraging students to get involved in the Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) field. In the meantime, I plan to further my education and achieve my master’s and doctorate degrees. |
