CERSER stands for the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research. The purpose of this organization is to develop relevant research focused on global, ocean, and ice sheet research. The ECSU Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) is the home of the IEEE-Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Eastern North Carolina Chapter #03181. CERSER capability includes a SeaSpace TeraScan SeaWiFS and HRPT system composed of the following components: Polar Orbiting Tracking Antenna (1.2m); Global Positioning System (GPS) Antenna/Receiver; Telemetry Receive; SGP Interface Unit (SGPI); Uninterruptible Power Supply. The CERSER Laboratory consists of fifteen computer workstations containing Linux and Windows; remote storage areas of research information; servers including a local web server, file server, and an online course server. Also available is an undergraduate research lab consisting of twenty-two Silicon Graphics workstations and a second lab housing twenty-five PC/Macintosh workstations and several servers. Elizabeth City State University, a constituent instution of The University of North Carolina, offers programs in the arts, sciences, as well as business. It is located in North Eastern North Carolina. Founded on March 3, 1891, ECSU is a historically black college univeristy that utilizes its resources such as being located near the coast, to benefit students in marine science as well as watershed watch. It has been ranked in the category of "Top Public Comprehensive Colleges," in the south for several years. NIA is an organization of Elizabeth City State University that is involved in a host of research projects. This includes Watershed Watch, Ice Sheet Melting, Remote Sensing, etc. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) is a federal funded agency that eniches life through science. NOAA oversees many services and products that support economic and environmental vitality such as daily wather forecasts, severe storm warnings ad climate monitroing to fisheries management, coastal restoration and supporting marine commerce. NOAA is the Nation's first scientific agency; it was created in 1807. |
