Statement
I have always enjoyed mathematics however computers have always been my favorite things to study. It was not until I had a conversation with the late Grady Deese Jr. in early February of 2009 that I realized that I was going to major in computer science. He said to me, “Young man the CERSER program could take your love for computers and turn it into a career.” Since that day I have sought out to further educate myself in computer programming.
Computers always fascinated me. I used to experiment with my family’s old IBM desktop. But when my family bought me a brand new Dell laptop, I was able to see the difference in the capabilities of a newer laptop compared to an old desktop. In high school many of my classmates often came to me when their computers were giving them trouble. Now that I am in college, people in my dormitory often knock on my door with questions about their computers. I started off installing programs on people’s computers and I eventually learned how to fix wireless router problems and Internet connections. But there is still much more for me to learn and that is why I came to Elizabeth City State University.
This summer I had the opportunity to do research with the Watershed Watch. We researched the effects of sea surface temperature on the strength of hurricanes. I have received training in Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 software. I am currently receiving training in Adobe Photoshop CS3. I am currently a freshman at Elizabeth City State University majoring in Computer Science with a minor in mathematics. I plan to learn everything that I possibly can and with the help of Dr. Hayden and the CERSER program, become a better computer scientist. |
