The golden sun setting into a crystal blue ocean, the white sand sifting through my toes, while the salty sea breeze brushes against my face, observing the marine flora and fauna around me begin to ready themselves for the nights adventures, while listening to air and its tales of life. These are the sights and sounds that led me to believe that ocean held something important, something so important that it needed my attention.
All throughout grade school and still today, marine science has been my passion and my ultimate goal. I have always excelled in the sciences and math’s and was placed in the top of my class as far back as I can remember. Growing up on the island of New Providence, Bahamas, in the city in Nassau, allowed me to have a firsthand view of what nature had to offer us from the ocean. Enrolling in Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) and majoring in marine environmental science, so far, has been the best choice for me. I am currently perusing a Bachelor of Science degree in this field, and hope that with the knowledge I gain from this course, I can change the way the ocean and its inhabitants are viewed.
Becoming a part of the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) has exposed me to a plethora of opportunities. I have already become proficient in many operating systems including MAC OS and Windows Vista, and plan to gain even more knowledge from my peers and mentors in the areas of Computer Science, Math, Oceanography and Astronomy. I hope to gain even more knowledge from CERSER, and use this opportunity provided to me, by Dr. Linda Hayden, to become more competitive in my field.
Once leaving Elizabeth City State University I plan on pursuing a Masters degree and subsequently my Doctoral degree in the science field in order to serve my planet and its inhabitants. |
