My name is Kamberlin King, a junior at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), majoring in computer science. I am a native of Itta Bena, Mississippi. My interest in computers started in the 6th grade, when I wanted to learn how to type because some of my friends already knew. I learned how to type in the 7th grade and became the best typing student, which earned me an award and also increased my love for computers. After completing the 7th grade and researching the Computer Science field, working as a software engineer became my dream job and hard work was definitely in my future. I graduated Valedictorian of my class, in high school, and chose to go to Mississippi Valley State University after graduation.

Once in attendance at MVSU, I learned the true meaning of computer science, which is the study of the use and principles of computers. Mississippi Valley State University is the best choice that has been made so far in my life, and it will never be viewed as a mistake. The professors within the Mathematics Computer and Information Sciences (MCIS) Department are tremendously supportive and care for each and every student that is a part of the department. The MCIS Department helps me seek various ways to broaden my networking by encouraging every student to complete internship applications. They are always challenging me to study hard, visit my teachers during their office hours. MVSU is viewed as my "home away from home".

In the year of 2015, I was accepted into the Research Experience for Undergraduates in Ocean, Marine, and Polar Science program at Elizabeth City State University. During the program First Aid, boating safety, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications were obtained. I got a chance to experience some activities such as boating and working with a GPS. The internship educated me on how to use various software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Microsoft PowerPoint. I worked along, mentor, Michael Jefferson Jr., and two others as part of the Antarctic Remote Sensing Research Team. The title of the research we did was "Validation of the ASBS in the South Eastern Region of the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica" which dealt with glacier loss and the changes over many years of the basal stress boundary that was created in 2003.

During the summer of 2016, I was accepted into the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Elizabeth City State University. I was a member of the REU Pasquotank Water Quality team, which was mentored by Jeffrey Wood. The title of the research was "A Continuing Study of the Water Quality in the Pasquotank Watershed in Northeastern North Carolina", which deals with testing the water quality of the Pasquotank Watershed. The water quality conditions that the project experimented on were pH, conductivity, salinity, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, water temperature, clarity, turbidity, and air temperature. The 2016 REU program increased my knowledge and skills on the applications and activities offered in 2015. Canoeing, Microsoft Excel, and swimming were also three valuable skills grasped during the summer.

My immediate academic goal is to receive my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science in 2018. After earning my bachelor's degree, I plan to further my education and obtain my Master's and Doctorate's degree in Software Engineering. My professional ambition is to become a software engineer nationally and internationally. I plan to become a software engineer for a multinational technology company. This is my ultimate long-term goal because it is a rewarding and demanding career.
