My name is Kamberlin King, a sophomore at Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU), majoring in Computer Science. I am a native of Itta Bena, Mississippi. My interest in computers started in the 6th grade, when I wanted to learn how to type because some of my friends already knew. I learned how to type in the 7th grade and became the best typing student, which earned me an award and also increased my love for computers. After I completed the 7th grade and researched the Computer Science field, I knew that I wanted to be a Computer Programmer, and I had to work hard to get to that profession. I graduated Valedictorian of my class, in high school, and chose to go to Mississippi Valley State University after graduation. I was awarded a full academic scholarship in the Mathematics, Computer and Information Science Department (MCIS) of MVSU.

Once I got to MVSU I learned the true meaning of Computer Science, which is the study of the use and principles of computers. Mississippi Valley State University is the best choice I have made so far in my life, and it will never be viewed as a mistake. The professors within the MCIS Department are tremendously supportive and care for each and every student that is a part of the department. The MCIS Department helps me seek various ways to broaden my networking by encouraging every student to complete internship applications. They are always challenging me to study hard, visit my teachers during their office hours, and I view MVSU as my "home away from home".

I am currently doing research at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) on the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Ocean, Marine, and Polar Science this summer. During this program, I will obtain certification in First Aid, boating safety, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). I will also get a chance to experience some activities such as canoeing, boating, and working with a GPS. This internship educates students on how to use various software applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver. The internship also educates students on how to operate the LINUX and Macintosh. A team webpage and professional webpage will also be done during the course of the internship. The title of the research that I have taken place in this summer is "Validation of the ASBS in the South Eastern Region of the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica" which deals with the changes over many years of the basal stress boundary that was created in 2003.

My immediate academic goal is receive my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science in 2018. I have learned that the more focused a scholar is on his or her education, there would be a greater chance for that scholar to have a more successful career. After earning my bachelor's degree I plan to further my education and obtain my master's and doctorate's degree in Computer Engineering at Mississippi State University. My professional ambition is to become an outstanding computer programmer nationally and internationally. Hopefully, I will achieve my goal by becoming a computer programmer for Microsoft or some other large technology. This is my ultimate long-term goal because it is a rewarding and demanding career that will help improve the future. My niche in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics field, and I know exactly what I want to do with my education. Achieving my academic goal will put me on track to obtaining my professional goals. This will ultimately lead me to having the career of my dreams, and being able to make a positive impact on the future of the world. I have ambitious goals, but I know I will achieve them through a great education, because education is the foundation of success.
