Research Overview

The 2012 Research Experience for Undergraduates in Ocean, Marine, and Polar Science Archaeology Team was responsible for taking a radar survey using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) at Cobb Point, NC, the expected site of the Culpeper Rebelion. In addition, the site was home to a customs house and courthouse. Using geo-rectified aerial photographs, from 1938 and 1993 that were processed with Envi 4.7 software, the team identified the position of the old shoreline and structures in a 1938 aerial photograph and a 1850 Coastal Survey Map. In collaboration with the Musuem of the Albemarle, the Archeology Team was surveyed the site suspected to have once held the customs house and courthouse from the Culpeper Rebellion.
