Throughout the spring of 2004, Dr. Linda Hayden, Principal Investigator for the NRTS program, Mrs. Keisha Wilkins, and Mr. Ervin Howard traveled to area schools sponsoring Math Sprint Competitions for elementary students. The students completed problems under a time constraint, were given points for correct answers, and were penalized for wrong answers. The winners received trophies for their efforts and certificates were presented to others in the competitions. In some schools, Dr. Hayden was joined by guests such as Dr. Eleanor Green Dawley-Jones of Norfolk State University, retired, who helped to supervise the Math Sprint Competitions.
