Roosevelt Askew, II |
Dr.
Roosevelt Askew, II was born in Hertford County on October 30, 1954
to Roosevelt and Janie Askew. He grew up in Bertie County where he
graduated from Bertie Senior High School in 1973. He continued his
education by attending the Roanoke- Chowan Community College in Ahoskie,
North Carolina, Shaw University, Raleigh North Carolina and Virginia
Union University where he received his Master of Divinity- Theology.
He has also received the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in Community
Development from Virginia University in Lynchburg, Virginia and is
currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Education from
Andersonville Baptist Seminary in Camilla, Georgia. |

Dr.
Askew serves as an independent consultant to develop programs for
community building, family growth, self-esteem building, drug awareness/prevention,
and is currently employed at Elizabeth City State University as a
University Counselor and Counselor for Spiritual Activities. He also
serves as Executive Director of the Center with Alternative Programs
through Education, Incorporated (CAPE), a non-profit organization
assisting families living with HIV/AIDS. His past experiences include
serving as Clinical Chaplain at the Pasquotank Correctional Institution
where he coordinated religious service programs and provided pastoral
care and counseling for inmates, staff and their families. |

Carolina; Head Start Policy Council, Hopewell, Virginia; Police Chaplain,

of the Board of Trustees of Roanoke Chowan Community College, Ahoskie,
NC; North Carolina Correction Association (NCCA), American Correction
Association (ACA), and Theta Kappa Sigma, Psi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Inc. |
Dr.
Askew has received numerous awards: Nominee for Outstanding Dedication
and Commitment (1999 Governor's Award for Excellence - North Carolina
Office of State Personnel); 1999 Nominee for Outstanding Dedication
and Commitment - Certificate of Recognition - Department of Corrections;
1999 Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service; Appointed
to the Governor's Commission on Responsible Fatherhood; and nominated
to Lexington Who's Who in 2000. |
