Hello,
my name is Andrew Thompson. I am a native of Columbia, South Carolina.
I currently am a sophomore at South Carolina State University
in Orangeburg, South Carolina. I am working on my bachelor's degree
in Computer Science. After receiving my undergraduate's degree;
I will attempt to obtain my master's degree and Ph.D.
I plan to use these degrees to teach in the field of Computer
Science.
Being
in the Undergraduates Research Experience in Ocean, Marine and
Space Science here at Elizabeth City State University has broaden
my scope of ways in which Computer Science can be utilized. There
is a niche or can be a niche for Computer Science in every field.
Along with learning how to swim, going on field trips to swamps
and beaches, and learning boating safety we have also learned
HTML, JavaScript, basic concepts of the Unix system, and how to
diagnose local watersheds along with other activities.
I
am a member of the Bottlenose Dolphin Occurrence off the Virginia
Coastline and its relationship to Sea Surface Temperature. Under
the guidance of Kevin Foss we tracked the bottlenose dolphin throughout
the waterways of Virginia and North Carolina. Using GIS tracking,
and common dolphin behavior we studied the correlation of the
highly intelligent bottlenose dolphins and sea surface temperature.
