GIS Workshop - 06.03.08 - 06.05.08 :: Darlette Meekins, GIS Analyst/Cartographer (Resume)

  Darlette Meekins obtained a BS degree in Geology from Virginia State University and a Master Degree in Geology from Iowa State University. She has been employed as an Exploration Geologist with Mobil Oil and Exxon USA. She also worked several years with NEMA as a Photogrammetrist/ Geodesist  in Saint Louis, MO and Bethesda, Md.  She is currently participating in George Mason’s GIS Masters program.
   Darlette Meekins is currently employed with the Department of Transportation as a GIS Analyst. She has worked as a Cartographer, CADD operator, network support tech, and  Instructor.  She has trained many employees on how to create and design maps, plans and reports by using MicroStation CADD, Adobe and ArcView. 
  Currently, her skill set is stronger in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  She takes CADD drawings and converts them to GIS spatial data for the Traffic Engineering and Design Sections.She has traveled across the state teaching GIS to both state employees and non employees.  As a visiting Instructor, at Virginia State University, She has taught two semesters of GIS in addition to assisting with teaching GPS and Remote Sensing. She is currently enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University working towards her doctorate in Integrated Life Sciences with GIS emphasis.  She is a professional member of Geographic Information Systems Professional Society (GISP) and her hobbies include hiking, swimming, scuba diving, and being active in her Church and Sorority.
  Ms. Meekins was assisted by Ms. Vantrice Johnson of Hermitage High School in Glen Allen, VA. Vantrice assisted with the logisitics of the class and spent her time observing college campus life.
