The River City Community Development Corporation hosted the 2017 Men of Excellence awards at the K.E. White Center on the Elizabeth City State University campus.
The Men of Excellence awards is presented by the River City Community Development Corporation to recognize local men selected for promoting the community and/or engaging in community outreach and service. There were 22 men nominated for the awards and nine were selected for the award.
The Elizabeth City State University’s Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) was represented by nominee Joal Hathaway.
Joal’s goals are to help increase the use of computer technology within schools while strengthening technological accessibility for teachers and students. He has represented CERSER at various events including: the Commencement Ceremony of the River City YouthBuild/AmeriCorps, Elizabeth City River City YouthBuild students attending a private screening of the movie “Hidden Figures,” and the Elizabeth City River City YouthBuild visit to the Virginia Air & Space Center Black History Month Celebration.
River City Community Development Corporation leadership through the implementation of programs and initiatives that provide affordable housing, economic and workforce development, health and wellness, cultural awareness and youth empowerment.
