 Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)1x1
The Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) took place in Washington, DC on February 19-21, 2015. There were plenary sessions that had different speakers such as Ainissa G. Ramirez, a Science Evangelist, who spoke about her love for science and how she wanted to inspire others with learning at a young age and how she also co-authored “Newton Football, The Science behind America’s Game.” Maggie Werner-Washburne, Regents’ Professor of Biology, University of New Mexico and Past President of SACNAS, spoke on her heritage and the Hispanic people. Other speakers included Vinton G. Cerf, who is one of the fathers of the internet and the Vice President of Google and Manu Platt, a biologist who is trying to work with HIV in South Africa and Ethiopia.

This conference also had poster and oral presentations. Elizabeth City State University graduate student Ka’Ren Byrd made an oral presentation titled “Snow Water Equivalent Data-Processing Simulator for a Wideband Instrument for Snow Measurement”.

There were also schools presenting information on graduate school and internships, among them were Indiana University, Columbia University, and Princeton University. Rensselaer University’s representative presented information on its graduates who developed software such as Guitar Hero, Apple’s Siri, and others.
