On Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, 2014, the Center for Remote Sensing of Ice Sheets (CReSIS) sponsored a professional development experience and a STEM field trip for public school teachers, university mathematics and computer science students, and other students from local schools. CReSIS representatives presented information and hands-on CReSIS activities at their booth.
Approximately 325,000 people attended the largest celebration of STEM in the nation!! Students and teachers were inspired by this national STEM initiative. Attendees had the unique opportunity to engage in presentations with some of the biggest names in science and engineering, hear stories of inspiration and courage.
The Science & Engineering Festival was held in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. The festival featured more than 3000 hands-on activities and over 150 stage shows, including music, magic, and comedy, a career and college fair for high-school students and a book fair with over 25 featured authors. All exhibits provided the opportunity to meet and talk with real-life scientists and engineers who work to answer some of the most important questions of our time in areas from human health and the environment to astronomy.
