Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) day was held at Pasquotank High School on Monday, November 18 from 12:00 to 3:00pm. As high school juniors and seniors they are currently applying for college and making major decisions that will eventually lead them into their chosen career fields.
The students were first welcomed to the event by Interim Chancellor Charles L. Becton who thanked the high school students for their interest and eagerness to pursue the next steps towards their future. After the Interim Chancellor completed speaking, one individual from each ECSU department/program represented gave a brief overview of respective areas and the advantages of attending ECSU.
Michael Jefferson Jr. and Justin Deloatch, Graduate students at ECSU, represented the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER) at the event. Students were told about the program including: 1) How to apply; what are the requirements enter the program; and 3) How to keep the scholarship as they advanced through their college years.
Students were attracted to the program’s facet of travel to various locations for internships and conferences. Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Deloatch have traveled to many locations including: Germany, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, and Boston during their time in the program.
Students also had a chance to win an ECSU bag if they were able to solve a brainteaser available at the booth. The outcome of this event was very productive as 20 students requested to apply to be a part of CERSER at ECSU.
