The Eighth Biennial Awards Banquet organized by the Office of Sponsored Programs was held on September 30, 2010 for the Elizabeth City State University faculty and staff. The bi-annual event spotlights outstanding efforts by the faculty to bring grants and sponsorships to the university. The awards banquet is held every two years to give new and developing grant writers an opportunity to hone their grant writing skills and to become eligible for next awards banquet in 2012. The awards banquet was preceded by a grant writing workshop on at the K. E. White Graduate Center. The Office of Sponsored Programs at Elizabeth City State University presented the workshop entitled "Adapting to Global Recovery: Strategies for Resource Building". Guest speakers included Dr. Cora B. Marrett, Acting Director, National Science Foundation, and Dr. Fitzgerald B. Bramwell, of Howard University.

Dr. Ephraim Gwebu, Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics was awarded the Chancellor's Award.
Dr. Harry Bass, Dean of the School of Mathematics, Science and Technology received the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Achievement Award for the school.

Dr. Linda Hayden, Director of the Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing Education and Research (CERSER), was presented three awards:
  • 1st Place for the Largest Number of Proposals Submitted
  • 1st Place for the Largest Dollar Amount Funded
  • 1st Place for the Largest Number of Awards
  • 2nd Place for the Largest Dollar Amount of Proposals Submitted
