Getting to Know Eunice D. Smith
I am the eldest child and baby girl of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar and Lois Smith,Sr . I have two brothers, Edgar Jr. and Timothy, and a close cousin Alyssia. Throughout my lifetime, I learned the importance of family first-hand. As a resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, I attended private and public school. In June 2000, I graduated fro m Israel Charles Norcom High School as Salutatorian.
After graduation, I was blessed to start my first internship at Coastal Training Technologies of Va Beach, Virginia. In August 2000, I entered Elizabeth City State University, as an optimistic, self-motivated person, looking forward to mathematical research in the ONR/NASA Research Scholarship Program. During the academic year, I participated in undergraduate research projects, which included studying Mathematics of the Great Dismal Swamp and Unix. Later, I would continue to intern each summer at places such as the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and NASA Glenn Research Center. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science, I returned to Elizabeth City State University to pursue graduate studies.
Making a difference in the lives of others has always been important. I am a firm believer in helping others while in the process of achieving one’s goals and continuing to help afterwards. Serving as a Teaching Assistant has opened my eyes to another realm of adult education. It was rewarding to instruct college students. On May 6, 2006, I received a Master of Science in Mathematics. I plan to further my education by earning a doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related science. My younger siblings look up to me and expect me to be a good role model for them. I want my siblings to believe that if I can do it, they can too. “I promise myself…to give so much time to the improvement of myself that I have no time to criticize others... to think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best…”(My Attitude, unknown) |
