Generation of Test Tools to Exercise, Benchmark, and Troubleshoot Network Equipment for Realtime CLCS

The Checkout and Launch Control System (CLCS) mission is to replace the current Launch Processing System (LPS) with standards-based, Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) system and custom software. It will utilize multi-vendor platforms tied together with standard Local Area Network (LAN) technology. A program mandate is to replace the existing LPS without causing changes to the existing flight hardware or software and with no impact to the flight manifest. Ultimately, these tools will mature into a deliverable suite of tools to be used by the Operations Engineers in their day-to-day activities, as well as generating data to be used in the vendor selection of various network components. The tools were generated in the "C" programming language within the Unix environment and utilized, at a minimum, the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and the Internet Protocol (IP) via the use of Unix sockets.

Renovation of the Office of Fusion Energy Sciences Website

Summer of 1997
The purpose of the research was to renovate the Office of Fusion Energy Science (OFES) website at the Department of Energy. The main goal was to make the public knowledgeable about the duties and responsibilities of the Office of Fusion Energy Science. Fusion energy booklets and other fusion websites (Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory) were viewed to generate ideas to be applied to the OFES website. Once resource material was reviewed, the website was updated by adding a table, a hyperlink map, links, text, and pictures. New webpages (Education page, Program News page, and Index) for the OFES website were created. All of these elements were implemented by the use of the languages HTML and JAVA and the software packages Adobe Photoshop 3.0, Adobe Pagemill 2.0, Adobe Acrobat 3.0, and Microsoft Word.
