Personal Statement
My name is Dionne Blakeney. I was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia.
Ever since I began high school, I obtained an interest in computers. I loved
every aspect of using a computer. I used a computer for everything such as
projects, presentations, and reports. During my sophomore year of high school,
I decided to continue on to college and major in Computer Science. My parents
and teachers have inspired me to do the best of my ability. I have always had
goals that I wanted to accomplish.
I have mapped out my next ten years of my life and the goals that I plan to
achieve. My goals are to finish college at Elizabeth City State University and
earn my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. I will then journey on to
graduate school, preferably at University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill or
Penn State, to earn my Master's Degree. I will one day work as a network manager
for a large firm in a big city. I chose the career of networking managing in
order to have a job that I will enjoy doing. In the future, I will own my own
house, car, and be able to purchase anything that I need without the help of
anyone but God himself. I wish to show off the women's right of independence.
That is what I plan to accomplish in life.
In order to attain these goals, I must show that I am dependable, responsible,
organized and very qualified. Throughout my years in high school, I have
developed these qualities and more. Since I plan to pursue a career in the
networking field, I am working towards learning more about this field and
presenting my skills to show that I can become a network manager for a huge
company one day. Although fulfilling these goals in the future, I must prepare
today by applying to different businesses for opportunities to gain an internship
position or co-op position that will help me gain experience for my career in
the networking field. It also will help me obtain more knowledge about the job.
I will have experience in the field just in case i decide that I do not want to
pursue a job in the networking field. This is what I plan to do. I have it
all planned so that I will not be confused throughout my years in college and
not know what I want to do. As long as I have an idea and I am prepared for
the obstacles along the way, I am satisfied that I will accomplish all of my
goals.
