Dawne Brown is a graduate of North Carolina A and T State University
(BSME, 1995). She is presently a graduate student at Old Dominion
University with a major: Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in Design
and Manufacturing. Graduation date: May 2002

Graduate School Application Process
- Apply early.
- Develop relationships with instructors while in undergraduate school who
will be willing to write you recommendations for graduate school.
- Take GRE.
- Secure funding: For the Applied Sciences, there is endless funding
available either through the university you plan to attend or through
fellowships, scholarships, grants, etc.

Graduate School Environment
- Expectation: Students are expected to have firm understanding of major
courses. Instructors do not re-teach information.
- Independence: Students should be capable of studying and learning
difficult concepts independently of other students. At this level, you
should always be asking the questions "How?" and "Why?", and be able to
answer them.

Undergraduate Preparation
- Study, study, study!!!
- Secure internships/co-ops.
- Develop independent study skills.
- Learn to read with understanding.
