ADMI 2001 Admissions and Graduate School Life
back to ADMI index

The most beneficial part of the conference was the graduate program sessions on Friday. This program allowed the students to talk to computer science representatives of the graduate programs. Howard University, Hampton University, Jackson State University, and Florida A&M University were some of the schools that were represented.
There was a power point presentation given with the students in mind. The slide show covered a variety of topics from current grade point averages and study habits to test taking skills. This presentation was long and fairly boring, but it had many good points.

The panel of university representatives, who all had obtained their doctorates, gave fairly good feedback. Students left this session feeling more aware of certain processes that will be involved in graduate school.
Following this session current graduate school students were brought in to answer questions. This forum allowed students to interact with other students. Those graduate students basically reinforced what the formal presenters had previously said. However, one point that they made was graduate school is more of an individual thing. You have to have inner-determination to complete your masters and doctorial degrees.
