Nurturing ECSU Research Talent
Elizabeth City State University


This program, entitled "Nurturing ECSU Research Talent", focuses on undergraduate education and undergraduate research experiences. Nurturing these young researchers is a primary concern. Highest priority is given to providing them with the guidance and skills to insure their entrance and success in graduate school. Further, each student learns the fundamentals of scientific research, in a team setting, under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Program activities are as follows:

1. Student development activities

  1. Recruitment of high ability minority students;
  2. Providing a precollege/summer experience for recruited students;
  3. Providing research experiences;
  4. Providing a mentor, graduate school counseling and GRE preparation;
  5. Providing financial support for students in the form of research scholarships;
  6. Providing funds for student travel.

2. Infrastructure activities

  1. Enhancement of current computer graphics and operating systems courses;
  2. Development of a new course in computer visualization;
  3. Establishing a visiting lecture series in computer science;
  4. Providing UNIX network management support;
  5. Acquisition of computer equipment appropriate to support.
