Workshop Name: | Hands-on Object Oriented Programming with Java
Description: | The Java programming language provides a quick way to build robust, and platform independent applications. Java can be used to develop distributed object applications for enterprise solutions as well. This is a fast pace introduction to the core Java programming language with emphasis on developing applications using the latest Java class libraries. This course assumes some familiarity with object-oriented programming in C++.
Facility: | Rm C228 Brown Hall of Norfolk State University will be secured for the hands-on workshop. The Instructor will have an NT workstation connected to a LCD projector for presentation. Each participant will utilize an assigned NT workstation for hands-on learning. All workstations will be preloaded with JSDK 2 and Code Warrior.
The Goal: | The Goal of this workshop is to give faculty participants the necessary knowledge to develop and teach a semester long undergraduate Java programming course with ease.
Objectives: | After the 2 day hands-on workshop, faculty participants will be able to use Java 2 SDK and Code Warrior and Java class libraries to write, compile, debug and execute Java applications, applets and graphical user interfaces(GUI's). Emphasis will be on buidling robust applications using Java's object-oriented featuers.
Personnel: | The workshop will be organized by the PI (Dr. Mou-Liang Kung). The Department of Computer Science at Norfolk State University will invite a highly qualified instructor at its own expenses. The Department will also assign two Lab assistants to set up the laboratory and provide technical support. A secretary will assist in registration, correspondence and course material handout.
Registration: | The workshop is limited to 20 participants of which 12 are reserved for non-NSU NRTS Partners. Each NRTS partner school is invited to send no more than two(2) faculties to the Workshop. A stipend of $150 will be paid to each workshop participant. In additon, each non-NSU NRTS partner faculty will receive up to $200 in travel reimbursement.
