AUI Cable -> Access Unit Interface, a cable used to connect or interface the 10 Base-5 (thick ethernet) NIU to the transceiver. Also called "transceiver cable".
BNC -> a type of connector for thin Ethernet or 10 Base-2 cables.
Hub -> a hub is the center of a star topology. An "active hub" is a mixed media repeater or concentrator specified for the 10 Base-T Ethernet standard.
RJ45 Modular Cable -> an 8-wire flat cable with telephone jack-like connectors used to connect a Cable 10 Base-T NIU to a wall plate or a hub. Also called "access cable" in certain context.
Station -> a PC, MAC or any computer on the network. It is also called a node or host.
Sever -> a network station capable of performing special services such as remote login, file sharing, electronic mail, remote printing, ..., etc. to all stations on the network. A typical server is a multitasking system that provides more than one type of service.
CSU/DSU -> Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit. A special modem used to send and and receive digital data across high speed leased lines.
Router -> a device used to route packets toward their final destinations according to the current state of the network.
UTP -> Unshielded Twisted Pair cable. This cable is used in 10 Base-T ethernet implementations, to connect a Hub in a telephone closet or other location to a wall plate in the user's immediate work area. Level 5 UTP is the current standard.
