1999-2000

Educational and Research Initiatives planned for the 1999-2000 program include a focus on collaborative research, NASA based education opportunities, building videoconferencing capability and implementing the expert site concepts. Specific activities planned include the following:


  • Implementing the Exploring Technology with Satellite Imagery program through GSFC.

  • Building videoconferencing capability.

  • Expanding collaborations with the NASA Langley Educator Resource Center.

  • Implementing Virginia Standards of Learning and North Carolina Standards through the increased use of NASA Educational Resources.

  • Implementing Project ATOM funded through the Department of Education in collaboration with Norfolk State University, Elizabeth City State University, Virginia State University, Fayetteville State University, and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

  • Conducting a Fall 1999 university partners meeting on the campus of Hampton University in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Science Center.

  • Conducting the Annual Earth System Science Academy.

  • Maintaining the NRTS Webpage.

  • Expanding involvement with the Space Science Enterprise.

  • Conducting 2 major training events.

  • Support for the 1999 MU-SPIN Annual Users Conference.

  • Hosting two extended summer workshops for educators and students.

  • Submitting at least one collaborative proposal with university partners.

  • Expanded involvement of pre-service teacher at partner institutions.
